Houston, June 10, 2012 - The damage done early last week when a contractor hit one of the university's primary power feeders is repaired and the feeder is ready to be come back online. Facilities Management took immediate steps Tuesday afternoon, when the damage occurred, to ensure continuity of service to the campus by rolling the buildings on the damaged feeder to one of the Central Plant feeders until all repairs could be completed.
The Utilities Services group will begin the transfer of service back to the primary power feeder Tuesday morning, June 12. The power transfer will occur between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. for the following buildings - University Center, University Center Underground, Law Center buildings, Fine Arts, Cemo Hall, Farish Hall, McElhinney, Hoffman Hall, Hilton Hotel south, Technology 1 and 2, Social work, Wortham Theater, Communications, Hofheinz, Agnes Arnold Hall, Architecture, HSC , Optometry, SERC, Cougar Village, Classroom and Business Building CBB, Lofts, and Athletics/Alumni. The power transfer will occur between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. for Health Center, Student Service Center, Dart Center for Students with Disabilities, Hilton north, HSC, and Moore's School of Music.
This power transfer may create a short blip or outage in power lasting from 3 to 5 minutes but the Utilities Service group is working to minimize the duration. After the power blips and the outages have occurred, our Facilities Management team consisting of electrical, elevator, fire alarm and mechanical personnel, will immediately begin walking the buildings and confirming that all services are functional.
We are not anticipating any impact on any other facility then those listed above, however, if you experience any service interruptions after 8AM, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 713-743-4948 with a clear description of the issue that is occurring so it can be quickly assessed and addressed.
