Dear Cullen College Faculty and Staff:
I hope that you all had a joyous and restful holiday break. Welcome back!
I would like to draw your attention to Provost Short's recent communication<https://uh.edu/infotech/services/e-comm/official-email/view.php?sendit=aHR0cHM6Ly9jbG91ZGFwcHMudWguZWR1L3NlbmRpdC93LzFkVjBjN28wSHpXRWlBSUtGSzUwUmcvWW5NUVVXMVZMVWNqTnJJRDVtMHpQQS84OTJFQU9IT2tGODhNaEV2dWJsZ3d5VFE=> from Friday December 31. With students set to return on January 18, it is imperative that we stay informed and vigilant about the University's processes and guidelines regarding COVID-19. The CDC recently updated its guidelines on isolation and quarantine, and the University of Houston is following suit. For more information on this, I recommend that you refer to Provost Short's message<https://uh.edu/infotech/services/e-comm/official-email/view.php?sendit=aHR0cHM6Ly9jbG91ZGFwcHMudWguZWR1L3NlbmRpdC93LzFkVjBjN28wSHpXRWlBSUtGSzUwUmcvWW5NUVVXMVZMVWNqTnJJRDVtMHpQQS84OTJFQU9IT2tGODhNaEV2dWJsZ3d5VFE=> and the CDC website<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html__;!!LkSTlj0I!G79iCDnhUTFp-xUna0dCVDN2V_i7KitLLWjMFBELU7CmLIlJWDTEaN0XvW_JBmLEmXEOiMWTbBBWCrpkLuPrKcTospY$ > for further details.
To stand the best chance of navigating another successful semester, I recommend the following:
Consider getting vaccinated. Vaccination is the most effective tool against COVID-19, so if you have not yet, please consider getting a first, second, or third dose, if eligible. Each inoculation brings us another step closer to normalcy. You can learn more about vaccinations here<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/index.html__;!!LkSTlj0I!G79iCDnhUTFp-xUna0dCVDN2V_i7KitLLWjMFBELU7CmLIlJWDTEaN0XvW_JBmLEmXEOiMWTbBBWCrpkLuPrRp5rs8w$ >.
Stay informed. Regularly check the University's COVID-19 response website<https://www.uh.edu/covid-19/> as well as the CDC's<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html__;!!LkSTlj0I!G79iCDnhUTFp-xUna0dCVDN2V_i7KitLLWjMFBELU7CmLIlJWDTEaN0XvW_JBmLEmXEOiMWTbBBWCrpkLuPrKcTospY$ >, and monitor your emails closely for updates.
Wear a mask. Masks are helpful in reducing the spread of disease, and as such, are strongly encouraged on campus. If in doubt, mask up!
Monitor your health. If you are exposed to or contract COVID-19, follow all appropriate protocols, outlined here<https://www.uh.edu/covid-19/guidelines-protocols/>. If you feel unwell, stay home.
Remain positive. There are a lot of reasons to be hopeful about the future. While the pandemic has gone on longer than any of us could have imagined, we have already reclaimed some of what we lost in the early stages, and there are even brighter days still ahead.
As always, thank you for your unwavering commitment to the Cullen College, and I wish you all the best for a prosperous new year!
Warm regards,
[University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering Office of the Dean]
