Good afternoon,

This is a reminder to properly shut down all computers, NAS and computer-related electronics in your areas during the holiday break, if you're not planning on accessing them remotely. A proper shutdown means choosing to shutdown from a menu as opposed to pressing the physical power button on a computer. There may also be unscheduled power blips or outages that could potentially cause physical damage to those electronics.

If you plan on working remotely during the holiday break, please make sure to download and install UHVPN on home/remote computers. Instructions for installing UHVPN is in this link: https://www.uh.edu/infotech/services/computing/networks/vpn/windows/. Please reach out to Eric Stern if you have any questions about VPN and remote desktop usage.

College servers will remain operational during the break, unless power or network outages prevent them from staying on. We will send out email notifications if such events occur.

Please also communicate this message to students in your lab areas as well.

If you've already taken your holiday break early and have not shut down your computer(s), please work with your department and those who may have the key to your office for assistance.

Thank you and hope everyone will have a happy and safe holiday break!
