Dear College of Engineering faculty,

As you leave for well-deserved winter break, I would like you to make sure that you have assigned the grades in all the courses including Masters and PhD Research (6x98, 8x98) and Masters thesis and PhD Dissertation (6399, 7399, 8x99).

1. If you do not assign a grade to a course, it becomes a NR (Not Reported) grade which puts our students in a difficult situation if they are on financial aid or if they are international students. So, please make sure you have assigned grades to the students registered for your traditional courses as well as Masters and PhD Research. The research courses are graded on S/U basis and if the only time you have seen a student registered for these research courses is the first week of classes they do deserve a U (Unsatisfactory) grade.

2. If a student is going to continue his/her Masters thesis/PhD Dissertation, please assign them IP (in progress) grade not a letter grade. If a student has finished his/her thesis, you should assign him/her a letter grade. A student may have enrolled in more than what is required for completion of thesis and dissertation, however, please assign the letter grades only in the hours that will meet the degree requirements (6 hours for all departments and 9 for Mechanical Engineering thesis students and 12 hours for dissertation for all departments except for Industrial which requires 18 hours of dissertation). If you assign grades in more than required hours, we will ask you to file a grade change reverting the excess grades to IP grades (Graduate School Policy).

Happy Holidays!
