Dear CCoE Faculty and Staff,
I am very delighted to announce that Dr. Fritz Claydon, professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the Honors Engineering Program, has accepted the position of Director of the Division of Undergraduate Programs and Student Success. The search committee unanimously chose Fritz as the best candidate for this position.
The Cullen College of Engineering is embarking on a bold expansion plan to double our undergraduate student enrollment by 2025, and the Director of the Division of Undergraduate Programs and Student Success will be central to achieving this ambitious goal. In his new role, Fritz will be responsible for developing and executing a plan for expanding our undergraduate enrollment while increasing undergraduate student success across the college. Although it is by no means an easy undertaking, I have no doubt in my mind that Fritz is the best suited individual to meet this challenge head-on and take our undergraduate programs to new heights of success.
Fritz previously served as the college’s associate dean for undergraduate studies (2004-2008) and research (2008-2013). He has been an active supporter of many of the college’s ongoing National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM outreach efforts, such as GRADE Camp, STEP Forward Camp, and the GK-12 Program. Fritz also serves as program manager for both the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program and the NSF Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program. In his latest role, Fritz will draw on many of his past experiences with STEM outreach and retention efforts to provide our undergraduate students with unprecedented support and a comfortable, project-based learning environment.
Thank you and all the best,
Joseph W. Tedesco, Ph. D., P.E.
