To the Instructors in Engineering,

There is an Engineering Career Fair coming up 10AM to 4PM on Thursday, September 18th. You have likely received an invitation concerning your attending this event; this email is NOT that invitation.

Rather, this is a request made at the urging of our students. Many of the students use the Career Fair as a step towards getting a job, on which they appropriately place a high priority. Some may even choose to miss a class, despite the clear risk this involves. I cannot directly condone that value judgment. However, I can ask that you consider whether you might be willing to change the date of a quiz or other similar assessments to another day other than September 18th, if that does not significantly affect your course and its effectiveness.

If you read my careful wording here, it should be clear that all the choices are up to you. All such choices are, indeed, entirely up to you. For myself, on the days of career fairs, I have postponed a quiz in my own course, but lectured during the full period. You should do what you think is appropriate for your course. The web page for the Engineering Career Center is:

Dave
