Hello Engineering Faculty and Staff,
The 2014 State Employee Charitable Campaign is getting underway (see message below from Dr. Lee). For the past 3 years, our Cullen College has been #1 across the entire campus in donations raised ($22,045 last year, or almost 30% of total campus contributions - WOW!). Your generosity is wonderful, and so to all who have given before, "THANK YOU FOR YOUR PAST EFFORTS!!"
The Campaign runs from now until October 31 (officially, but if you miss this deadline, we'll still take your donation). For now, we won't need Dr. Lee's instructions re pledge forms. Our GREAT group of Department Coordinators listed below will be getting a form to you. They VOLUNTEERED to make it easier for you to turn in your donation. When your Coordinator contacts you with a smile and form, I hope you'll be able to make a donation. You'll also get friendly reminders as the campaign runs along (so don't procrastinate).
Here's the added fun part for our Coordinators. They have a contest to see who (1) raises the most funds; (2) has the highest number of participants; (3) has the highest percentage of participants within her respective group. There's also a bonus award for the Coordinator who has the highest percentage increase in participants over last year. You can help your Coordinator win a prize by turning in your pledge form.
Most importantly, participating in the SECC benefits worthy organizations in our Houston region in their efforts to support the less fortunate. They count on the SECC campaign for so much of their daily functions. Please join us in their effort. Please help.
Finally, since this is MY LAST SECC CAMPAIGN BEFORE RETIRING IN DECEMBER, I want to go out in fine fashion. I hope you'll be part of my last SECC College Team!
Thanks - Kitty

Dear University of Houston Faculty and Staff:
[http://uh.edu/ecomm/images/lee_e.jpeg]In 1993, Texas state legislation created the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC), a statewide annual effort that allows employees of universities and other state agencies to give to many of their favorite charities through a workplace giving campaign which features the option of payroll deduction. University of Houston employees have an outstanding tradition of participation in this annual campaign. From the start of the SECC, our UH community has contributed over $1.3 million that directly benefited local and national organizations and charities.
Charities eligible under the SECC campaign range from health and human services, environmental programs, human rights, and educational programs for children, to support programs for the elderly. There are neighborhood, local, state, and even national organizations. Many of these organizations have or will be assisting families and individuals who are experiencing hardship or deprivation. Each approved charity meets specific legal and operational standards that have been reviewed by teams of state employees so you can be confident that your contribution will be distributed to the organization and for the purpose that you select.
We know the Houston economy is better than that of most other areas; however, individual circumstances vary making it difficult for many of you to give. The recipients of services made possible by the campus SECC contributions appreciate the sacrifices and generosity of those who give. The UH family has always stepped forward to make our community better because we are part of the larger community. Last year UH faculty and staff contributed over $79,470. We encourage you to please give serious consideration to making a contribution. All gifts and pledges are totally voluntary.
To assist you with your gift decision we have created a website (www.uh.edu/secc<http://uhhelpdesk.custhelp.com/rd?1=AvNG~wqbDv8S~xb~Gv9c~yKtE~0qVmr5Vruzjz7~Pv96&2=13555>) where you can find the following SECC resources:
* A mini directory of agencies included in this year's campaign
* A more comprehensive directory that lists more detailed information about each agency
* Contact information for how to obtain your pledge form
* Pledge form instruction sheet
Study the material carefully on the UH SECC website, www.uh.edu/secc<http://uhhelpdesk.custhelp.com/rd?1=AvNG~wqbDv8S~xb~Gv9c~yKtE~0qVmr5Vruzjz7~Pv96&2=13556>, or visit the Houston SECC website at www.secchouston.org<http://uhhelpdesk.custhelp.com/rd?1=AvNG~wqbDv8S~xb~Gv9c~yKtE~0qVmr5Vruzjz7~Pv96&2=13557> if you want additional information on a particular organization. We want you to make an informed choice, one that comes from the heart. At the end of the campaign we will let you know how well the UH campaign did.
The final deadline for giving and/or pledging is October 31, 2014. To learn how to obtain and fill out a pledge form, visit www.uh.edu/secc<http://uhhelpdesk.custhelp.com/rd?1=AvNG~wqbDv8S~xb~Gv9c~yKtE~0qVmr5Vruzjz7~Pv96&2=13558> or call the Office of Community Relations and Institutional Access (CRIA) at 832-842-5090 for additional information. Where there is a college coordinator, you may receive additional notification and assistance. We apologize that pledge forms are not available online and that cash donations are not accepted. Thanks for your consideration and for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Elwyn Lee
