Please review the e-mail below. There was a gas leak detected over the weekend near Engineering 1, and the gas utility has been shut off. Repairs are being arranged. I will forward updates as I get them.

All Natural Gas going into Engineering D1 is shut off until repairs are made.
We located the valve at the west end of the gas line paralleling the south end of the building, but could not locate the east valve.
I believe we should call in the locating company to mark the gas line and locate the valve box cover. I will do that in the morning.
A Centerpoint crew will need to break open the concrete sidewalk to expose the broken valve for replacement.
The site is secure and is blocked off by yellow caution tape. The stairs going into the building are not blocked. Therefore, the Police will monitor this cordoned off area.

Building coordinator(s) for Building 579 must be notified that all natural gas to their building is shut off. If there are any experiments using natural gas, then those must be shut down until gas is restored.

I estimate repairs will not be finished until Monday afternoon.

Thank you, and Good Night.

There is a natural gas leak coming from the underground 2” valve feeding Engineering D1, Building 579, at the southwest corner of the building. We have contacted Centerpoint Emergency Service and are waiting for them to arrive. We have not called the Fire Department as yet. We will wait for that decision once Centerpoint gets here. Police have blockaded the street between 579 and 515. The valve is closed now, but has snapped either at the plug or internally. The gas is off and Repairs to the leaking valve will require shutting the gas off to Engineering until repairs are made.

Mike Wheeler has sent me the gas distribution drawing.

I will update after Centerpoint arrives.
