Good afternoon,
Please plan ahead for the scheduled power outage this weekend, and turn off computers and electronics powered by the building before leaving for the week. Our past experience shows that even a momentary outage can still cause electrical damage to computers and peripherals alike. Unless your computer and electronics are plugged into a local UPS, you should consider turning them off.
Please note that surge protectors (power strips) WILL NOT protect computers and electronics that are plugged into them from power outages like the ones scheduled for this weekend.
The servers in the ECC will remain turned on and monitored, and will only be shut down if power outage is extended. In the event that this happens, we will notify you accordingly.
Thank you and let me know if you have any questions.

See below for an update on the scheduled power outage for this weekend. The Annex will have an outage for approximately 29 minutes, the remainder of the engineering buildings should only experience a "blip".

Can you verify whether we will be experiencing a "blip" or a sustained outage for 2 hours? It was unclear, my assumption is that utilities will eb doing a sequential test and balance on a per building basis, but wanted to verify. We have some equipment we have been trying to get onto back up power, but they are not there yet.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

For campus-wide distribution and communication:
The Facilities Management electrical team reports that all repairs to the Cougar 1 and 3 feeders have been completed successfully.
The final step will be to test and balance the electrical distribution system to ensure the integrity of the power being provided to the campus. To minimize the impact to campus, there will be a planned momentary power outage Saturday, October 26, between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. This will include a necessary building systems startup process and verification. Generators will be on standby. Please plan accordingly - turn off electrical equipment and computers and save any data. Please make necessary provisions for research equipment and experiments. Building occupants may notice a slight blip. That is normal and to be expected. Please notify the Facilities Service Center at 713-743-4948 if you experience any related issues. Facilities teams will be working to address any issues that may arise.
Not all buildings will be affected during this process. Please refer to the list below for buildings THAT WILL BE AFFECTED.
If this information changes, campus will be notified.
Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
