**************************************

UH Staff and Faculty:

Some faculty and staff have reported receiving messages from companies that are not legitimate messages. Rather, they are messages designed to trick unsuspecting users into providing personal information or downloading malicious software to their computers. In some cases, the messages contain web links to malicious websites. In other cases, the messages contain attachments with malicious programs that will infect the computer when opened. These messages may appear to come from legitimate entities such as Key Bank, PayPal, Bank of America, etc. and are designed to appear authentic in order to trick unsuspecting users.

What should you do?

 1. If you receive a message from a company you do not have accounts with, or otherwise do business with, delete the message.
 2. If you receive a message such as described above, do not open the attachment or click on any website links included in the message. Delete the message.
 3. If you have already opened the attachment, gone to a website link included in the message, or otherwise provided personal information, please contact UIT Security at security at uh.edu<mailto:security at uh.edu> or via phone at 832-842-4695.
 4. If you are unsure about the validity of a message, you may forward it to UIT Security at security at uh.edu<mailto:security at uh.edu> for assistance.
 5. As always, please make sure that your computer is fully up to date with software and anti-virus updates. Contact your local IT support for assistance if necessary.

We appreciate all of your diligence in assisting in the protection of university resources.
