Texas Engineers:
As many of you may know, National Engineers Week (Eweek) is an annual event in the United States which recognizes and promotes engineering to K - 12 as well as the public, at large, presenting an opportunity for current professional engineers to help inspire young people to see the value of engineering. Eweek is officially scheduled for February 17 - 23, 2013, but there are many related events scheduled outside of that week and ways to be involved throughout the year. The Texas Board of Professional Engineers would like to encourage you to participate in events that reach out to students and your community to talk about engineering. Depending on the activity, you may be eligible to receive continuing education credit for your participation (see below for details).
The National Eweek Foundation has a great website: www.eweek.org<http://www.eweek.org/> where you can go find information about how to get involved with events happening in your area. Some of the events on the Eweek website include:
* DiscoverE Educator Awards
* Discover Engineering Family Day
* DiscoverE Visits®
* Global Marathon-Women in Engineering & Technology: Get Inspired. Be Informed. Change the World. (March 6-8, 2013)
* Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day® (February 21, 2013)
* National Engineers Week Future City® Competition
* New Faces of Engineering
* New Faces of Engineering College Edition
Every year numerous corporate and other sponsors host or promote events designed to enhance the understanding of engineering and its impact on humanity.
This year, The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) is the lead society sponsor working with the National Eweek Foundation and Lockheed Martin is the lead corporate sponsor.
The Texas Board of Professional Engineers doesn't sponsor any of these events directly, but definitely encourages participation in any local events. Texas PEs should also keep in mind that our rules allow you to claim up to 3 hours of continuing education credit for participation in certain educational activity:
§137.17 Continuing Education Program
(f) PDH units may be earned as follows:
(10) Active participation in educational outreach activities involving K-12 or higher education students.
This is a great opportunity to get out and be active in the engineering community.
