Colleagues,
The importance of the material in the e-mail below was stressed by Dr. Heidi Kennedy at this week's Undergraduate Committee meeting. She asked that UC members reinforce this message within our own Departments and Colleges. If a student seems to be on the edge, doesn't show up for an exam, or has a distinct change in behavior that you notice please follow up when possible.
For some students the best approach may be walking them to CAPS (in Student Service Center 1), or in the event of an after-hours crisis, call the University of Houston Department of Public Safety at (713) 743-3333 and ask to be transferred to the CAPS "Clinician on Call."
Where appropriate, call 911.
Another option is involving the UH Conduct Assessment and Response Team (CART). You can submit an "Incident Report Form" to them online at http://www.uh.edu/cart/index.html and CART will initiate an assessment of the behavior of concern.
Best,
