Abstract

The purpose of this overview presentation is to introduce three effort groups that require management, "project", "process" and "entity". The presentation examines the "project", as generally having the most time constraint of the group. It shows skills and competencies necessary to successfully manage a "project". The presentation goes on to show examples of tools and techniques used in that endeavor. Management competencies come from diverse fields that including engineering and business.

Due to the difficulty and temporary nature of a "project", and the uniqueness of each effort, a case is made that "projects" are the steppingstone to study "process" and "entity" management. The study of "project" management, in engineering, adds value to engineers who strive for management positions in their field.

The presentation introduces the concept of Engineering Leadership as a preferred way to approach successful completion of engineering efforts.
