[CCoE Notice] Invitation to Engineering Faculty to attend Sept 21 Entrepreneur Boot Camp

Dear CCE Faculty:

It is my pleasure to invite you to the 2010 Entrepreneur Boot Camp hosted by the Cullen College of Engineering.  Scheduled for September 21, the Boot Camp is designed to be the starting point of creating an “Innovation Ecosystem” at the college and university that will become a model for innovation and entrepreneurship to enable commercial activity and framework to drive research dollars into the academic departments.  The focus of the event is to inform faculty and furnish them with a commercialization “tool box.”  Boot Camp presenters include successful entrepreneurs and investors, who will deliver a Houston-ized Silicon Valley perspective on company formation and funding.  The day begins at 8:00 a.m. in the Houston Room at the University Center, University of Houston.

The Boot Camp is an intensive day of presentations and comments from experts in tech transfer, the Houston venture community, an “intellectual property primer,” update on the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, where the “academic” begins, and how to build a successful business. The results of the survey of engineering faculty will be shared.  Faculty will also have an opportunity to meet and discuss their business concepts and ideas with Boot Camp coaches Jeff Warren and Julie Goonewardene.

Faculty, including junior faculty, from the Cullen College of Engineering are strongly encouraged to attend all or part of this event. Engineering research staff and students are also invited.  Faculty from other colleges are welcome to attend space permitting.  Lunch will be provided.
