[UH-PROMES Listserv] Engineering Mentor/Mentee Kickoff - Wednesday, September 30th

Program for Mastery in Engineering Studies uh-promes at EGR.UH.edu
Fri Sep 25 15:28:38 CDT 2015

To All Engineering Students,

Would you like to be a mentor to a fellow engineering student or have someone mentor you? Someone to give you advice about what classes or what professors to take, studying techniques, networking tips, to have all your questions answered? PAC (PROMES Action Committee) is offering all engineering students to be involved in this beneficial program. To become a mentor or mentee/protégé, you do not have to be part of PROMES; all engineering majors are welcome.

This mentorship program was established to benefit students with someone to look up to in case they have any questions, need help with assignments/classes, need a teacher/class recommended, or to simply have someone guide them through their first year in college. PAC, along with other engineering organizations, has various events and study nights throughout the semester for mentors and mentees to meet.

Mentors and mentees need to meet face to face twice a month, or as much as possible, depending on the schedule of the mentor and mentee. Our goal is for the mentor and mentee to maintain a close, consistent, and friendly relationship. Mentors have busy schedules, so, based on their availability, they should keep in contact by phone, email, texts, Facebook, or any other social network available. Mentors can regularly check on their mentee by sending them emails as to how they are doing academically, what they think of their classes, any upcoming exams, how's college life, etc., just to keep in touch. To keep track of mentors and mentee meetings, a selfie should be sent to the Program Coordinator, Rosie Ortiz, at rmortiz at uh.edu<https://email.uh.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=673345a0c58e4dddabe0d6e973f7591d&URL=mailto%3armortiz%40uh.edu> every time you meet. There will also be monthly socials, study nights, and outreach events at which mentors/mentees will be able to meet. Each participating mentor and mentee will be sent an email with current information regarding these events!

The Mentorship Kick-off will be on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 7:30 - 9:30 at the Student Center Gameroom. Come and join us for a fun networking event and practice those bowling skills!!!

This event is mainly for mentors and mentees who plan to participate in the program to meet each other and network. If you are interested in the program, please sign up below:
