FIRST(r) Senior Mentor for Regional Youth Robotics Programs  ~ Houston, Texas



U.S. FIRST, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a part-time position as a Senior Mentor in the Greater Houston Area.  The goal of this position is to recruit and support FIRST teams and events in this region.



Responsibilities and Duties:

*         Help develop teams and provide support for all FIRST Programs including; FIRST(r) Robotics Competition (FRC(r)), FIRST(r)  Tech Challenge (FTC(r)), FIRST(r) LEGO(r) League (FLL(r)), and Junior FIRST(r) LEGO(r) League (Jr.FLL(r))

*         Build relationships with volunteer recruitment resources (nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, companies, and professional associations, etc.)

*         Conduct presentations and facilitate skill-building workshops for potential and current mentors, event volunteers, and teams for all FIRST Programs.

*         Recruit volunteers to serve as FIRST Team Mentors, Coaches, and event volunteers for all FIRST Programs.

*         Work to meet the requirements of an Individual Service Plan (ISP), submit monthly reports and participate in teleconferences and other meetings as assigned.

*         Not a fundraising position



Qualifications and Attributes:

*         Experience as a FIRST volunteer, especially as a Team Mentor with FRC, FLL or FTC, is strongly preferred but not a requirement;

*         Experience in volunteer recruitment, screening, training, motivation and recognition;

*         Experience marketing programs is strongly preferred but not a requirement;

*         Understanding of office and internet technology and the ability to utilize systems;

*         Ability to effectively handle interpersonal situations, including tactfully handling feedback;

*         High energy level, flexible, and self-motivated;

*         Articulate, with a proven ability to write and speak well;

*         Highest level of personal and professional integrity and quality standards;

*         Cross-cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse communities.



Specifics:

This position will begin on July 1 and will be a 12 month contract with monthly payment for 10-15 hours per week (flexible hours necessary).  Travel within the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area is required.
