PROMES students:

Please complete a 2012 scholarship application if you wish to be considered for any of our scholarship programs this upcoming academic year. The application is called the General PROMES Scholarship Application and it is something we use across multiple scholarship programs administered by PROMES. It is on the PROMES website (www.egr.uh.edu/promes<http://www.egr.uh.edu/promes>) and is also attached to this email. If you have previously applied, you must complete a new application for this school year as the application has been modified. Completed materials may be brought to the PROMES office or scanned and emailed to promes at egr.uh.edu.

Below is a summary of our current scholarships:

Steve Franke SHELL/PROMES Scholarship - We fund 2-3 junior and senior students on this scholarship on an ongoing basis. Cum GPA minimum is 3.2. Typically students on this scholarship remain funded until they graduate and as long as they remain eligible. We fill openings as they occur and as funds permit.

NACME Scholarships - This program is open to Native American, Hispanic and African-American students per the eligibility requirements set out by NACME. Scholars must have at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA. Once selected, a student remains on the scholarship until graduation and as long as eligibility requirements are maintained.

Gerhard Paskusz PROMES Scholarships - This scholarship is intended to provide temporary emergency assistance to PROMES students who are experiencing a short-term financial hardship that might result in the student having to leave school if they do not receive immediate assistance. Funds are limited and are reserved for special situations of the nature described. Students must be in Academic Good Standing and must sign an academic contract with the PROMES advisor for the term of the scholarship.

PROMES Banquet Scholarships - Corporate donors sometimes provide $500 scholarships which are awarded to outstanding students at the PROMES banquet. Requirements and guidelines vary and are designated by the donor companies. Selections are made by the PROMES Scholarship Committee based upon those guidelines.

PROMES NSA Scholarship - This scholarship is awarded through PROMES with funds donated by the Nigerian Student Association and other donors. Awarding of this scholarship is contingent upon available funds. This is a competitive scholarship offered to both residents and non-residents of the U.S. Selection is based upon outstanding service to the NSA and requires a separate essay that describes the impact NSA has on your personal life and how you intend to give back to your community if selected for this award.

Other scholarships occasionally become available and will be awarded by the PROMES Scholarship Committee. The General PROMES Scholarship Application form is used for all PROMES scholarships.

There is no specific deadline as awards are made on an ongoing basis throughout the academic year. We recommend that you complete the application as soon as possible so that you will not miss out on opportunities!
