<span style="font-size:14px; font-family:Arial">I am pleased to announce that the Cullen College of Engineering’s chemical and biomolecular engineering department is now named for one of our college’s dearest friends and benefactors,
</span>William A. Brookshire, Ph.D. (BSChE ’57)<span style="font-size:14px; font-family:Arial">. The William A. Brookshire Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is the first named department in the Cullen College, and we are honored to now forever
be a part of the Brookshire family legacy.</span></p>

<span style="font-size:14px; font-family:Arial">Dr. Brookshire graduated from the University of Houston in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He went on to earn his master’s of science and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Louisiana State
University and later returned to Houston, where he founded S&B Engineers and Constructors in 1967 with his business partner James Slaughter, Sr. At that time, the pair made up the entire roster of a company that would grow to employ 7,500 people around the
world.</span></p>

The naming gift, made by Dr. Brookshire in 2017 prior to his passing, established multiple endowed chairs, professorships, graduate student fellowships, and a research endowment for the department.<span style="font-size:14px; font-family:Arial"> In addition
to the Dr. William A. Brookshire Endowed Chair to be held by the chair of the department, Dr. Brookshire recognized many former professors that were influential to him while pursuing his degree at UH by naming endowed positions after them. The Abraham E.
</span>Dukler<span style="font-size:14px; font-family:Arial"> Endowed Chair, Frank M. Tiller Endowed Professorship, Dan Luss Endowed Professorship, Neal Amundson Endowed Professorship, and the Frank Worley Endowed Professorship have already greatly benefited
the department and its faculty.</span></p>

financial support to hundreds of engineering students and the teaching excellence award he established recognizes faculty who excel in the classroom.</span></p>
