concerned with some advanced electromagnetic modeling techniques applied to
practical complex systems, especially for those processing a periodic or
quasi-periodic feature. The focus is to reveal the fundamental physics of the
electromagnetic wave intereaction with complex structures, and thus to bring in
physical insights, and arriving at an improved algorithm.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;

font-family:Calibri;mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma">This dissertation consists of
three self-contained parts, each one which discusses one of the modeling
techniques with the application on some periodic or quasi-periodic structures.
Examples present in this dissertation include (a) an analysis of the conductor
surface roughness effects on stripline transmission lines, (b) the calculaion
of the current density of a Fabry-Perot cavity antenna made of 2-dimensional
patch array, with the focus on the leaky-wave radiation and (c) a semi-analytical
study of the radiation and coupling mechanism of massively packed vertical
interconnects (vias).<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;
font-family:Calibri;mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;
font-family:Calibri;mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma">Numerical results from the
proposed modeling techniques are validated with comparisons to those from
full-wave simulations or measurements. These proposed models are capable of
clarify the physics on the electromagnetic problems and can thus be used as
design guidances. They are proved to provide robust results with much higher
efficiency compared to other existing methods.</span><span style="font-size:
