Professor Bankes will examine the property, regulatory, liability, and greenhouse gas accounting issues in relation to CCS projects in Alberta, and his presentation will cover both pure disposal projects (i.e. saline aquifer projects) as well as enhanced oil recovery projects. Given the shale energy revolution in the United States and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s pending regulations to require carbon capture and storage at coal-fired power plants, Canada’s experiences and insights offer a timely and welcome perspective.

Nigel Bankes is a Professor of Law at the University of Calgary where he has taught since 1984 and where he now holds the chair in natural resources law.
