There are numerous rumors as to what caused the power outage and why it continues, but here is the bottom line. A couple power feeds to the main campus are damaged, so there is limited power on campus. This affects campus-wide power, cooling and chilled water. Repairs to the damaged power feeds could be finished this weekend or later.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'>With that partial knowledge, I encourage everyone to help out by minimizing the use of electronics in your areas. The ECC server room has been at high temperatures, therefore, non-essential servers are powered off until cooling returns. If your servers are in our area and you can do without it for a few days, please let me know so I can shut them down. The same is true for computers and lab equipment. We should plan for this outage for at least into the weekend ahead.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'> <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'>Thank you for your patience as we continue to carry out business as usual.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'>Kiet Luong<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'>Manager, Desktop Support & Windows Servers<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'>Cullen College of Engineering<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'>Email: KietL@uh.edu<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'>Voice: 713.743.9974<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><div><div style='border:none;border-top:solid #B5C4DF 1.0pt;padding:3.0pt 0in 0in 0in'><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif"'>From:</span></b><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif"'> Luong, Kiet A <br><b>Sent:</b> Tuesday, October 08, 2013 8:57 AM<br><b>To:</b> engi-dist@egr.uh.edu<br><b>Subject:</b> Cooling issues continue in <o:p></o:p></span></p></div></div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Good morning,<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Cooling issues continue in the ECC suite.
