<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">
Description
This course is of interest and value to a broad student demographic across schools and departments. It is particularly useful to Ph.D. students as well as to undergraduate students with pre-med orientation. The syllabus features a rare combination of <span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif""> `hands-on' experiences coupled with historical and social perspectives. Two issues fundamental to modern science, publications and human/animal studies, are given special attention and constitute the practicum component of the course. Students may choose to focus on one or the other depending on their orientation and interests. <span style="font-size:13.5pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">

The students are engaged in supervised peer review training of actual manuscripts, under special agreements between the journal editors and the investigators. This is a unique opportunity not only to understand in practice how proper peer reviewing is done, but also to get to know first hand the ins and outs of the "publication game".<span style="font-size:13.5pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">
