All:<br><br>Many of you are inquiring about the NSF requirement for a Data Management Plan. Professor Harold was kind enough to share his first stab at one for a grant he has due next week..... Below are my modifications<br>
for a grant I have due to NSF next month. Many thanks to Mike... please free to use as you see fit.<br><br><br>fc<br>-----------------------------<br><br><br>

<p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The purpose of this proposal is
to obtain NSF support for a thematic Research Experience for Teachers (RET)
site at the University of Houston (UH) entitled “Innovations in
Nanotechnology”, to be conducted during the summers of 2011-2013. The six week
program is designed to infuse 12 bright teachers each year with enthusiasm for
the field of engineering and knowledge about nanotechnology research that will
be subsequently shared with their respective middle and high school classes. </span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The <b style="">deliverables </b>of this project includes
the following four items:</span></p>

implement their Legacy Cycle nanotechnology modules during the subsequent
academic year.</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style=""><i style=""><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><span style="">3)<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";">

<p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><b style=""><i style=""><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Types of Data.</span></i></b><b style=""><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><span style=""> </span></span></b><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The project will lead to both
research results and teacher developed lessons and activities. Lab notebooks,
manuscript drafts, and presentations will also contain data and findings.<span style=""> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><b style=""><i style=""><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Means of Data/Results Dissemination.</span></i></b><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><span style=""> </span>The investigators of this project are
committed to ensuring that the findings from this project are widely
disseminated.<span style=""> </span>An effective way is
to publish the findings in peer-reviewed journals and in presenting the
findings at regional and national conferences.<span style=""> </span>Additionally, as mentioned above, teacher modules will be
submitted to <a href="http://teachengineering.org">teachengineering.org</a>.<span style="">
</span><span style=""> </span>We also expect that
the collaboration with teacher participants will be used in other projects
carried out by the PI and the senior personnel listed in the proposal.<span style=""> </span>So it is likely that data from these
studies will be reported in presentations and publications.<span style=""> </span></span></p>

Co-PI have considerable experience with managing research programs.<span style=""> </span>Each will follow their established
disciplined approach to data collection and storage, both in electronic and
hard copy forms.<span style=""> </span>No unique
standards need to be developed for the current project.</span></p>
<p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><b style=""><i style=""><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></i></b></p>

the findings to the general public, we will post major findings on our RET
website. <span style=""> </span>Should any research findings
be considered patentable, patent disclosures will be filed by UH.<span style=""> </span>This will not undermine the plan to
publish.<span style=""> </span><b style=""><i style=""></i></b></span></p>
<p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><b style=""><i style=""><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></i></b></p>

an efficient sharing of information between (UH) and other interested parties, a

responsible for ensuring that design documents, calculations and measurements
from this project are properly archived at the University of Houston.<span style=""> </span>Electronic data will be stored on
computer hard drives and backed up by the University of Houston computer system
