Our Tier-One push requires an exceptional amount of work and with budgetary constraints creating additional challenges, I commend each and every one of you for your contributions to move our college forward as a nationally-competitive engineering program. Thank you!</span><o:p></o:p></p><p><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Lucida Grande";color:#333333'>Here's a wrap up of several events and initiatives launched this fall as well as some other developments that I'd like to share with you:</span><o:p></o:p></p><p><strong><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Lucida Grande";color:#333333'>NRC Rankings</span></strong><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Lucida Grande";color:#333333'>: In early October, the National Academies' National Research Council released its rankings of doctoral programs. After a thorough review of the data, many of our programs scored higher than most of the emerging research institutions in Texas and in some areas, as good as, if not better than, other Tier One institutions in the state. <a href="http://www.egr.uh.edu/news/1110?e=nrc">Read more about our rankings</a> in our latest online story.</span><o:p></o:p></p><p><strong><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Lucida Grande";color:#333333'>ELB</span></strong><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Lucida Grande";color:#333333'>: The Engineering Leadership Board convened in late October to review the college's strategic initiatives and provide suggestions on how we can achieve our objectives and goals. This group is very dedicated to moving the college forward on every initiative outlined in the strategic plan. Many thanks go to our board for all the time and effort they have given to our college. I'd also like to thank the faculty and staff working to implement the many initiatives developed by the board.</span><o:p></o:p></p><p><strong><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Lucida Grande";color:#333333'>Brown Bag Events: </span></strong><span class=style21><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Lucida Grande";color:#333333'>This month, we launched a series of brown bag events to further our developing faculty entrepreneurship program as well as grow diversity among our faculty ranks, particularly among our female professors.
