Abstract
Quantum computers are becoming increasingly potent at cracking encrypted communications at the weak nodes in Internet of Things, given their real limitations in processing power, hardware availability and latency. As a result, post-quantum cryptography (PQC) is gaining momentum, with code-based approaches such as Hamming Quasi Cyclic currently undergoing NIST's fourth round of standardization.
This study delves into the major challenges of polynomial storage, multiplication and decoder design which are part of implementing HQC signatures for verifying devices in a network. This work investigates a design on Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA for determining system flow via simulation software, providing comparative study and addressing key design concerns. Toward this end, a host of optimization approaches are discussed and verified with experiments. Open source code is used to analyze the system dynamics in an optimized HQC implementation to understand the nuances of design considerations and choices.
