Dear all,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear colleague, alumnus, and friend, Dr. Miguel Angel Gonzalez Ramos. Miguel passed away surrounded by his family on December 27th after a short battle with bladder cancer. He was only 63.

Miguel earned his bachelor’s (’83), master’s (’85) and doctoral (’95) degrees in industrial engineering (IE) from the University of Houston (UH). He began his teaching career at UH before making the move to University of Texas System, UT-Pan American (UTPA) and UT–Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), where he would remain for the next 20 years before returning to Houston. Miguel became the first Hispanic dean to lead the College of Science and Engineering at The University of Houston Clear Lake in 2019.

In addition to his professional achievements, Miguel was a compassionate and caring individual who took the time to connect with others on a personal level. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, creating lasting bonds that extended beyond the workplace.

As we mourn the loss of a valued member of our UHIE family, let us also remember the positive impact Miguel had on each of us and the legacy he leaves behind. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this challenging time. May Miguel rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us all.

Sincerely,

Gino
