Title: Digital Innovation and Computational Science for Energy Transition
Thursday, March 30
1:30pm-2:30pm
CEMO room 101
Abstract: The energy industry is going through a double transformation, around decarbonization and digital transformation. We now know that the energy systems will need to change substantially in the coming decades. But what role will digital innovation and computational sciences play? And how do we get there faster? In this talk, I will share our vision and perspectives on Shell being at the cusp of this double transformation, with examples of developing deep capabilities in digital innovation, with specific examples around how are we decarbonising Shell’s current operations, helping to transform existing assets, and design energy systems of the future.
This journey cannot be walked alone – it is also a story of community development, external partnerships and ecosystem leverage, which I will cite some examples of.

General Manager, Computational Science,
Shell Technology Centre Bangalore
Suchismita Sanyal is currently the General Manager, Computational Science at Shell Technology Centre Bangalore, leading a team of 50+ researchers in delivering cutting-edge digital solutions to Shell, in close collaboration with experiments and data. A metallurgist by training, Suchismita brings in 22+ years of corporate R&D experience with GE and Shell and specializes in advanced digitalisation techniques for accelerated discovery of materials and systems design for energy applications. At GE, she had been involved in developing novel high temperature coatings and alloys for jet engines, land-based gas turbines, lighting and energy solutions. At Shell, her team has been delivering value for diverse Shell businesses across Integrated Gas, Chemicals, Catalysis and Renewable Energy Solutions, positioning Shell on a stronger foothold through the energy transition. Beyond her current team, Suchismita manages a portfolio of Digital and Computational Projects in her role as the Technology Program Manager, Digital and Computational Technology Platform, accountable for ideation, inception and end-to-end delivery of digital innovation solutions all across Shell.
Her other passion includes exploring innovation tools for project excellence: Suchismita is a trained level-3 expert in TRIZ (Russian acronym for Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) methodology. She has 7 Patents and 20+ peer-reviewed journal publications to her credit. Passionate about diversity and inclusion, Suchismita has been driving technical women’s network activities across GE and Shell and has been the President of the advisory board of the (external) Society of Women Engineers in India.
