Dear Cullen College Faculty, Staff and Students,

I hope that this message finds you well. President Khator released a statement late last week regarding ongoing COVID-19 safety protocols. As I am sure you are aware, Gov. Abbott issued an executive order that will lift the statewide mask mandate and allow businesses to increase operations to 100 percent capacity effective this Wednesday March 10. The University's official statement in response to the executive order can be viewed online here<https://uh.edu/news-events/stories/2021/march-2021/03032021.php>.

After careful consideration, the University of Houston will keep its current guidelines and safety protocols in place at least until the COVID-19 vaccine has been made widely available to all members of our community. All University faculty, staff, students and visitors are required to continue:

  * Wearing face coverings on campus at all times, except when eating, drinking or speaking
  * Social distancing, maintaining at least six feet of separation
  * Engaging in proper hygiene, including hand washing and sanitation
  *   Monitoring your health
  * Staying home when you feel ill

You can review all current protocols here<https://uh.edu/covid-19/>.

As a reminder, the University now offers on-campus COVID-19 testing<https://uh.edu/covid-19/return-to-campus/on-campus-testing/>. Please continue taking advantage of this free service. A limited quantity of the COVID-19 vaccine is also available at the Student Health Center to eligible members of our campus community. You can learn more here<https://uh.edu/covid-19/information/vaccine/>.

With the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccines, there is good reason to be optimistic about a return to normalcy sooner rather than later. But we are not out of the woods just yet, so I ask that you continue your vigilance for just a little while longer. We have been fortunate to not experience any major outbreaks on campus, but we will only continue to be successful so long as we keep prioritizing the health and safety of our community.

Thank you all for everything you have done and continue to do. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter by the day.

Warm Regards,
