Dear Colleagues,
The Structures and Artificial Intelligence Lab at the University of Houston invites students interested in deep learning, computer vision, or structural health monitoring to participate in the 2nd International Competition on Structural Health Monitoring (IC-SHM 2021). The competition is organized by the Asia-Pacific Network of Centers for Research in Smart Structures Technology (ANCRiSST), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Harbin Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University/University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Institute (ZJU-UIUC Institute), and the University of Houston. All interested students and young scholars are invited to participate in the competition. More details can be found here: https://sail.cive.uh.edu/ic-shm2021/.
This year’s competition is designed to further extend the frontiers of computer vision-based civil infrastructure inspection and monitoring. The problem descriptions can be found here<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://sstl.cee.illinois.edu/ic-shm2021/The*202nd*20International*20Project*20Competition*20-*20FINAL.pdf__;JSUlJSUl!!LkSTlj0I!Q1jwur_WDpooBzXNL8FCrzEHn6hkJ8eUhYvHQAQCqbN2ljzcAzikTAlyKhxFA5szOGc$ >. Note that to broaden the participation, tutorials are being provided for the competition projects to get new students started along a productive path (see website link above). The first tutorial is to introduce the participants to basic deep learning algorithms (semantic segmentation algorithms) used in Projects 1 and 2. The second tutorial is to introduce the participants to the basics of computer vision-based displacement measurement and damage identification.
Students and young scholars are eligible to participate in this activity – both individuals and teams are welcome. The participants should register online at https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://forms.office.com/r/EuEjUVPTZH__;!!LkSTlj0I!Q1jwur_WDpooBzXNL8FCrzEHn6hkJ8eUhYvHQAQCqbN2ljzcAzikTAlyKhxFaK13ggI$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://forms.office.com/r/EuEjUVPTZH__;!!LkSTlj0I!R3Ys94ULnBBRB6DgF3umr3Jx6gJEhfa3Q82qqTQ3Ka3fBE_0MpJmvoDi2CzPKxVTTo5Q$> before July 17, 2021. The datasets for competition will be released to all participants after the registration deadline. Those interested in participating in a team, but needing more members, should contact Dr. Hoskere at vhoskere at central.uh.edu for possible team assignments.
