Dear Cullen College Faculty, Staff and Members of our Leadership Board,



It has been wonderful getting to see you all around campus these last few weeks. Now with students back in our halls, life at the College is finally starting to feel much closer to normal. To our faculty, I hope that you have been able to use this time during your course soft openings to find a good balance for in person instruction. A TRANSFORMATIONAL GIFT



Thanks to a $1M gift from Cullen College alumnus Larry Snider, and his wife Gerlene (Gerri), the Department of Industrial Engineering now has its first ever fully funded endowed chair. This gift will enable the industrial engineering program to continue growing and meet the evolving needs of our partners in industry. I am truly grateful for the Sniders’ incredible support of our programs. As of March 1, 2022, Dr. Gino Lim, will be appointed as the R. Larry and Gerlene (Gerri) R. Snider Endowed Chair in Industrial Engineering. Please join me in thanking the Snider family for this tremendous gift and in congratulating Dr. Lim on this significant milestone!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT



This month’s outstanding staff member is:

Harriet Yim

Web Project Manager, Cullen College of Engineering

[Staff Spotlight]
Harriet Yim has been with the University of Houston for more than 20 years, and currently serves as the Cullen College’s Web Project Manager. Yim oversees the college’s massive network of websites, and handles everything from routine updates to designing and constructing new sites from the ground up, in addition to managing the Office of Communications’ web development team. She also processes and develops the college’s numerous e-communications requests. During the pandemic, she has been instrumental in the successful launch and implementation of numerous online events, including the College’s virtual graduation celebrations. Needless to say, there is so much we would not be able to accomplish without Yim’s endless dedication to producing top quality websites and e-communications work, especially in today’s world. Thank you, Harriet, for all that you do!

Thank you for your continued commitment to the College and for your support in our return to in person functionality. I understand that it has not been easy and that there is still quite a bit of uncertainty regarding COVID-19 in addition to what impacts the Delta variant may have. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments to our operations where necessary.



I hope that you all have a safe and productive start to this fall semester, and we will keep you informed of any new developments as things progress.
