Dear Colleagues:

The Best Dissertation Awards Committee reviewed the seven outstanding dissertations submitted by the departments/programs as the best dissertations. These dissertations were completed either in Spring or Summer 2020. The committee selected not one but two Best Dissertations submitted for the competition.

1. Aseem Chawla, Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Spring 2020. Major Professor: Dr. Jeffrey Rimer. Controlling Microporous and Mesoporous Domains in Zeolite Crystallization. Aseem published several journal papers based on his dissertation in high impact journals in his filed and the university has applied for a patent based on his work.

2. Musa Ozturk, Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Spring 2020. Major Professor: Dr. Nuri Ince. Pharmacological and Electroceutical Modulations of Local Field Potentials in Parkinson’s disease. Musa also published several papers in high impact journals and the university has applied for two patents based on his research.

Both Aseem and Musa will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a plaque. Our congratulations to Aseem and Musa as well as to their mentors, Drs. Rimer and Ince.
