Dear campus partner,
CAPS is excited to announce the return of our virtual workshop series: Coogs Conquer (C2) next week. Based on your feedback and current events in our community, we have created the following new workshops for June:
* Connect with CAPS - Have questions about CAPS services, referring a student, or counseling in general? Get these questions and more answered during this informative and interactive workshop. (June 16, June 26, July 2)
* Emotional rollercoasters - Ongoing disruption to our daily lives by COVID-19 and news coverage of racial unrest can cause a range of feelings. Learn how to cope with these ups and downs. (June 18, June 23)
* Racial Trauma is Real - Protests following the murder of George Floyd have reignited long-overdue conversations about anti-black racism in America. Learn about and understand the impact of racial trauma and how to cope and/or support those affected by racially traumatic events. (June 19, June 25, June 30)
We hope you'll consider joining us Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 2 pm for the month of June as we offer these spaces to learn and connect. Workshops are open to all UH faculty, staff, and students and are free to attend. For the complete schedule and Zoom links, visit our website here: https://uh.edu/caps/outreach/coogsconquer/.
Help us spread the word by sharing with your department and students, and follow us on social media (Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/UHCAPS>, Twitter<https://twitter.com/uh_caps>, Instagram<https://www.instagram.com/uhcaps/>) for reminders and updates. And please stay tuned for updates about our July Coogs Conquer schedule, to be released soon.
Additionally, CAPS stands in solidarity with the outrage over the recent killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Tony McDade, as well as the numerous other Black lives lost to violence and police brutality. As mental health providers, we recognize the detrimental toll that racial trauma takes on individuals and communities, and we are committed to being a resource for our UH community members that have been affected by racially traumatizing events in our country. As individuals and as an agency, we are committed to taking action steps that will work toward dismantling anti-Black ideologies and systemic racism. For our statement honoring Black lives, please see the attachment or visit our homepage at uh.edu/caps/<https://uh.edu/caps/>.
Thank you,
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
