Dear Engineering Faculty, Staff and Students,
I was just informed of a positive case of COVID-19 within our community reported yesterday through the University of Houston's official channels. The individual, who so far has been asymptomatic and is now self-quarantining, had been on campus recently in limited areas of Engineering Building 1. All potentially impacted members of our community have been notified and all the affected areas have been closed off and will be sanitized per official University and CDC protocols.
This news comes as a strong reminder that we all need to stay vigilant, cautious and aware. As the case counts continue to rise in Harris county, the risk of contracting or being exposed to the virus becomes even greater. If we are to be successful in navigating the coming months, we must do everything possible to keep ourselves and those around us safe, so I urge you to take heed of the following:
* If you have a fever, cough or any of the other coronavirus symptoms, you might have COVID-19. Do not come to class or work; do not participate in any campus activities or come to campus. If you do get sick, follow the steps on this page.<https://www.uh.edu/covid-19/information/what-to-do-sick/>
* If you learn that you have had close contact with a person who is lab confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19, whether on or off campus, follow the steps on this page.<https://www.uh.edu/covid-19/information/potential-exposure-coronavirus/>
* Regardless of whether you have been diagnosed with or been exposed to COVID-19, you must inform your supervisor and report it per official university protocol.
* Form for Reporting Potential COVID-19 Exposure<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=vboLF_CikEytSw6PDwxCWTmoy8dH3-BJh8ZSYPWdJgRUMElUMVNTS0g4WjkzTFZKRUFWVDNTRUJSMCQlQCN0PWcu>
* Form for Reporting Official COVID-19 Diagnosis or Symptoms<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=vboLF_CikEytSw6PDwxCWTmoy8dH3-BJh8ZSYPWdJgRUMVdFSldVMjZHVVo3V1hHR0NINjQwTEtSUSQlQCN0PWcu>
* In the event you are exposed or contract the virus, follow the University's official self-quarantine protocols on this page.<https://www.uh.edu/covid-19/information/self-quarantine-isolation/>
* Per campus policy and the Governor’s executive order that went into effect July 3, 2020, face masks must be worn at all times when you are in public areas or are in an office, lab, or classroom area with more than one individual.
* Continue to stay informed and regularly familiarize yourself with all of the official University protocols<https://www.uh.edu/covid-19/> as information continues to be added and modified daily.
Any questions regarding the above information should be directed to the University's official COVID-19 Response Coordinator at covid19coordinator at uh.edu. The college will continue to keep you all informed as we progress, so please continue to check your email for CCE COVID-19 Community updates. These community updates will contain information regarding new positive cases and potential exposure, updated protocols, plans for reopening and more. In the meantime, please continue to remain alert and cautious. I hope that you all have a safe holiday weekend.
Warm regards,
