Dear Cullen College Faculty, Staff and Members of our Leadership Board,



Now in the wake of yet another disastrous storm, Houston has once again showed its resilience and strength. Imelda brought Houston to a standstill with its dangerous conditions and heavy downpours, leaving many with extensive property damage. Moving forward, the Cullen College has made it its mission to tackle the challenges posed by storms like Imelda and is working hard to find ways of reducing risk and damage to our community. Many of our faculty are working closely with city and state officials as well as media representatives to ensure that the lessons we learn from Imelda drive our preparation for and response to the next big storm to hit Southeast Texas. I look forward to sharing important breakthroughs regarding alleviating the effects of major storms in the near future, and would like to invite you to learn about some of the research going on right now at the University of Houston'sHurricane Resilience Research Institute<https://www.uh.edu/hurri/>.
