[CCoE Notice] Pilot study - conducted by the Moores School of Music and the College of Medicine

Dear College of Engineering colleagues,

We are excited to introduce a pilot study being conducted by the Moores School of Music and the College of Medicine. This study aims to explore the effects of keyboard music-making classes on the mood states of non-musician university students.

You are being contacted because we are seeking 32 undergraduate student participants, ages 18-30 in their sophomore, junior, or senior year, who have no previous piano training. The study is scheduled to run for three weeks from November 4-22, 2019, meeting two times per week from 5pm-6pm. The classes are held in the keyboard laboratory in the Moores School of Music. There are no practice expectations outside of the previously mentioned class time.

The research team includes Dr. Courtney Crappell (music), Dr. Olivera Nessic-Taylor (medicine), Dr. William Elder (medicine), and Todd Van Kekerix (music). This project has been reviewed by the University of Houston Institutional Review Board
