ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to identify opportunities to improve production performance by utilizing improved oil recovery strategies in a mature oil reservoir. The identification techniques include analytical methods and simulation studies on field performance. Additionally, multiple recommendations were provided based on the field study and well performance combined with a new proposed technique.

A reservoir simulation study was carried out to forecast reservoir performance. After obtaining a reasonable history matching with field pressure and production data, a prediction study was conducted with various development strategies. The development strategies include keeping the status at the end of history match without any further actions (base case), decreasing FBHP, following FBHP trend, and infill wells. Two infill wells (UH1, UH2) were proposed and their production performance were investigated. UH2 has a higher potential in production, and it should be put in higher priority as an infill-well option. It can be concluded that infill drilling is most effective among all development strategies to increase oil recovery. The results of this work will help the operator to improve reservoir management of the field and also provide guidance in identifying areas that are suitable for a new infill drilling campaign.
