REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Sequencing and Gene Editing Core - Single cell RNA Sequencing (scRNA-Seq) Award
BACKGROUND
Some of the most significant insights into the complex etiology and diversity of various diseases and dysfunctions have been discovered through genomic profiling and accelerated via next-generation sequencing. These findings have been magnified by the ability to probe at single-cell resolution. The 10x Genomics single cell technology can analyze up to 10,000 single cells alongside Illumina’s next-generation sequencing platform. The UH Sequencing and Gene Editing Core supports UH researchers by providing access to this single-cell gene expression technology, analysis, and integration.
This Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Award covers library preparation and bioinformatics support for up to two (2), two (2) sample pilot projects using the single cell gene expression sequencing application (https://www.10xgenomics.com/solutions/single-cell/) from 10x Genomics.
PURPOSE
The goals of this funding opportunity are three-fold:
(1) support investigators’ use of scRNA-seq to acquire preliminary data for external funding, test feasibility of scRNA-seq as an approach, and/or validate data needed for publication;
(2) encourage the use of scRNA-seq by investigators who are new to the technology; and
(3) promote a collaborative environment between the UH Sequencing and Gene Editing Core and UH Researchers.
FUNDING
The UH Sequencing and Gene Editing Core will provide the following to the selected winners:
· Project Consultation
· Sample Quantification/QC
· Single Cell capture and Library Preparation
· Next-generation Sequencing
· Bioinformatics Support
· Invitation to present at the following UH Sequencing and Gene Editing Core seminar.
ELIGIBILITY
ONLY University of Houston investigators are eligible to apply. Those that attended the UH Sequencing and Gene Editing Core seminar (11/21/19) will receive additional consideration. Laboratories can submit more than one (1) proposal; however, only one (1) proposal within a laboratory can be selected as a winner.
PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS
· Proposal abstract within a max of 300 words.
· Abstract should include:
o Background/Rationale
o scRNA-seq Approach using 10X Genomics gene expression platform.
