Dear Engineering Faculty,
It is no secret that the growth of our graduate programs is absolutely vital in our College’s continued success. The Cullen College of Engineering has set an ambitious goal to increase both Master’s and Doctoral enrollment, and we have made great progress towards reaching these numbers over the last several years. These successes in large part are due to the contributions made by our faculty, whether big or small. As members of the Cullen College of Engineering, we each play a vital role in achieving goals and shaping our University’s future.
A generous donor has made a $15,000 matching gift challenge commitment towards supporting the establishment of an endowed Graduate Student Support Fund in the Cullen College. When fully funded, this endowment will be used to provide support for the recruitment and retention of graduate students which may include scholarships, research activity, internships, travel for professional development and other costs associated with pursuing a graduate degree at the Cullen College.
Matching gift opportunities are rare and I would like to see the full $15,000 utilized by the faculty in the college to establish the endowment. All gifts made by faculty members will be matched 1:1 until the full $15,000 has been met. Once the endowment has been established we will begin our external fundraising plan of working closely with our graduate student alumni to help build this fund.
I ask each of you to join me in making a gift to the Cullen College’s Graduate Student Support Fund Endowment before October 31, 2019 to show the solidarity of our commitment, not just to our graduate programs, but also to our students, faculty, staff and the Houston community. Your donation to the University can be made by credit card, check or paycheck deduction.
Please visit https://giving.uh.edu/eng/ to make your donation – choose Graduate Student Support Fund from the drop-down menu. Join us in setting the standard for engineering excellence.
Sincerely,
Joseph W. Tedesco, Ph.D., P.E., F. ASCE
