An NSM Faculty Development Workshop is scheduled for Friday, April 26, from Noon – 1:15 pm in Roy G. Cullen Building, Room 104.  Light refreshments will be provided.  A flyer is attached.


Topic: “Creating Intellectually Stimulating Environments in Large Classrooms”

Presenter:

Vice Provost, Academic Personnel
HHMI Professor, Developmental and Cell Biology
University of California, Irvine

This talk will cover our attempts at creating intellectually stimulating environments in large classrooms. The strategies I will discuss can be employed in large classes, but they are equally useful in smaller classes where they are often just a bit easier to implement.  I will demonstrate some of the approaches we use, discuss some results of our education research, and end with what I spend a lot of time thinking about in my administrative role as Vice Provost of Academic Personnel, and that is about institutional changes that support innovative approaches to education in research universities.
