[CCoE Notice] Emails from EGR employee at my.com

Good afternoon,

There’s been a rash of emails from an email address @my.com, perpetrating to be an actual Engineering employee - asking if you’re available and responding with a request to meet somewhere to talk.  Please ignore these emails because these email addresses are not UH email addresses (xxx at my.com<mailto:xxx at my.com>) and the email address(es) were not created/used by Engineering employees.  The hackers are creating these email accounts using UH employee names in an attempt to establish trust/familiarity to ask for help.

I sent an email to the college alerting of everyone about this last week (attached), and encourage the use of official UH email addresses instead of using non-UH email addresses.  If using only official UH email addresses becomes a habit, then these suspicious emails will immediately be recognized as fake because of the @my.com address.

Please be on special alert because the holidays always bring additional scams and SPAM than usual, and hackers are always finding new ways to trick you into acting.  Please forward any suspicious emails to me – with your analysis of the email – so we can all learn how to identify these better.
