[CCoE Notice] CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR COLLEGE RESEARCH AWARDS FOR 2017-2018

Dear CCE Faculty:

This is a call for nominations for the following faculty excellence awards for the academic year 2017-2018.  Please submit your nominations to dean at egr.uh.edu by COB March 19, 2018. NOTE that only 1 nominee in each category will be accepted from each department.

Fluor-Daniel Faculty Excellence Award: The highest honor accorded to a Cullen College of Engineering faculty member, this award symbolizes overall career excellence.

The Junior Faculty Research Excellence Award: Given to a young faculty member, eight years or less from the date of the doctorate, who has made an outstanding research contribution.

The Senior Faculty Research Excellence Award: Given to a faculty member whose research effort has brought significant recognition to the research activities of the college.

Nominations should consist of:  (a) a letter of nomination limited to two pages and (b) a copy of the nominee's CV. The candidate CV must include a list of the publications (highlighting student co-auhors and citations) and grants of the candidate (including indication if PI or co-PI and official percentage of credit). The CV should also list all current and past graduate students supervised by the candidate.

If additional information is needed, the committee will contact the nominees.

The following rules pertain:

•        Nominees for the Fluor-Daniel Faculty Excellence Award must be full-time tenured faculty who have held a continuous appointment in the Cullen College of Engineering for at least five academic years prior to the year of nomination.  Nominees must demonstrate excellence in all areas of faculty responsibility.  The selection committee will consider:  (a) the significance and national/international impact of the candidate's research or creative activity; (b) evidence of outstanding teaching ability; and (c) distinctive service to the College, the profession, and the community.  Documentation of quality teaching should be provided, along with a list of all graduate students supervised, together with their current positions if they have graduated.

•        Nominations for the Junior Faculty Research Excellence Award and the Senior Faculty Research Excellence Award should be restricted to faculty who had joined the Cullen College of Engineering at least three years prior to the time of their nomination.

•         No member of the Dean or Provost's office is eligible for the Junior Faculty Research Excellence Award or for the Senior Faculty Research Excellence Award.

•         A previous recipient of the Senior Faculty Research Excellence Award is eligible for reconsideration for the Award only in the event of significant contribution in a field of work distinct from that recognized in the previous Award.

•         Departments are restricted to 1 nominee in each category.

•         The Research Awards Committee shall make recommendations to the Dean.

•         No nominations will be accepted after the deadline of  COB March 19, 2018
