Good afternoon,
On Dec. 1st through Dec. 3rd University IT will upgrade your Lync 2010 phone service to Skype for Business 2015. No service interruption will occur during this time; changes will be made in the evenings from 8pm - 12am.
The upgrade will not require you to change your Lync or Skype for Business client. During the upgrade UIT staff will be monitoring the services and testing to ensure service continuity.
What to expect from this upgrade? If you are running Office 2013 you will see the Skype for Business application wrapper after the upgrade instead of Microsoft Lync. If it does not change that just means you are running an older version of Office 2013. The application will continue to work, you just won't see the Skype for Business application wrapper.
If you are running Lync 2010, you will be asked to install a plugin. Please email Eric Stern directly if you need to upgrade Office or Lync versions after December 3rd. Detailed information on the new Skype For Business version will be available after the server upgrade at w ww.uh.edu/lync.
Mac users who are using Lync will have the option to upgrade or not. Mac Lync/SFB software is available on software.uh.edu website. I was told the client is completely different, and the newer version is not necessarily better. Please contact the UIT Helpdesk (3-1411 or support at uh.edu<mailto:support at uh.edu>) for this and general Apple support topics.
Sincerely,
