Dear Cullen College faculty and staff,
It is my pleasure to announce that a familiar face at the Cullen College, Phaneendra "Phani" Kondapi, will assume the position of director of the subsea engineering program effective June 1.
With more than 20 years of experience managing engineering projects at energy industry giants FMC Technologies and KBR, Phani brings a unique and invaluable skillset to his new role at the college. After serving as director of subsea engineering at Texas A&M University, Phani returned to UH last year as the founding director of engineering programs in Katy. In this role he will spearhead the expansion of UH Engineering courses that are in high demand in Houston's Energy Corridor, including petroleum, subsea, electrical and environmental engineering.
One of the pioneering instructors in the college's subsea engineering program, Phani began teaching the inaugural "Flow Assurance" course at UH in 2011 and has since led efforts to standardize global subsea education through the University's Global Subsea Education Alliance. For his efforts as an educator, Kondapi was awarded the 2013 SPE Teaching Excellence Award<https://www.egr.uh.edu/news/201308/subsea-professor-wins-spe-teaching-excellence-award> from the Society of Petroleum Engineers<http://spe.org/> (SPE) International, which recognizes petroleum engineering faculty who have demonstrated innovative teaching techniques and creative pedagogy methods in the classroom. Most recently, Phani received both the SPE Gulf Coast Region 2017 Regional Projects, Facilities and Construction Award and the Regional Distinguished Achievement Award for petroleum engineering faculty.
With his invaluable blend of academic and industry experience in subsea engineering, Phani is ready to take on his latest challenge in leading the college's subsea engineering program. Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Phani in his new role!
Sincerely,
Joseph W. Tedesco Ph.D., P.E., F. ASCE
