Cullen College of Engineering Faculty and Staff:
It is time to consider nominations for the 2016-2017 College of Engineering Teaching Awards.
Award Categories and Eligibility
College of Engineering Faculty Teaching Awards: These awards recognize outstanding teaching by full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty in the Cullen College of Engineering. Typically multiple awards are awarded annually. Eligibility: All full-time, tenured, tenure-track faculty are eligible for this award. Nominations may be received from Faculty or Staff of the Cullen College of Engineering. Self-nominations are welcomed.
College of Engineering Instructional Faculty Award: This award recognizes outstanding teaching by Instructional Faculty and Lecturers who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to teaching, beyond what is characteristically expected of tenured or tenure-track faculty. Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, a faculty member must consistently teach a course load of at least 5 course sections annually (over the preceding three academic years). This award is open to all Instructional faculty and Full-time Lecturers. Nominations may be received from Faculty or Staff of the Cullen College of Engineering. Self-nominations are welcomed.
College of Engineering Teaching Assistant Award: This award recognizes outstanding commitment to instruction by graduate Teaching Assistants. Eligibility: Eligibility for this award is restricted to graduate students of the Cullen College of Engineering who have served as Teaching Assistants for at least one course in the preceding 12 months. Only Department Chairs can provide nominations for this award category. Please consult your chair to nominate Teaching Assistants.
College of Engineering Adjunct Faculty/Lecturer Award: This award recognizes the commitment to excellence in teaching demonstrated by lecturers and adjunct faculty who are not employed on a full-time basis by the Cullen College of Engineering. Eligibility: Eligibility for this award is limited to lecturers or adjunct faculty who are not employed on a full-time basis in the Cullen College of Engineering. To be eligible for this award nominees must not have taught more than 3 courses in the preceding two academic years. Only Department Chairs can provide nominations for this award category.
W.T. Kittinger Teaching Excellence Award: The W.T. Kittinger Teaching Excellence Award is the highest teaching honor conferred by the Cullen College of Engineering on its full-time faculty and recognizes an extended commitment to excellence in teaching and instruction. Eligibility: Full-time, tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track faculty who have been employed in the Cullen College of Engineering for at least 5 years are eligible for this award. Nominations may be received from Faculty or Staff of the Cullen College of Engineering. Self-nominations are welcomed.
College of Engineering Lifetime Teaching Award: The Lifetime Teaching Award recognizes those individuals who have dedicated their careers to excellence in teaching and instruction in the Cullen College. Eligibility: Full-time, tenured or non-tenure-track faculty who have been teaching in the Cullen College of Engineering for at least 20 years are eligible for this award. Nomination may be received from Faculty or Staff of the Cullen College of Engineering. Self-nominations are welcomed. This awarded will only be awarded if a truly deserving awardee is identified and may not be awarded annually. This is the only award category for which the Effective Instruction Committee may opt to nominate a candidate while in deliberation (after the nomination deadline). Members of the Effective Instruction Committee are not eligible for this award.
Nomination Requirements
Nomination packages must consist of:
1) A nominating letter (one-page maximum, 11 pt. font, one inch margins, on UH letterhead)
2) An optional 2 page appendix (11 pt. font, one inch margins) which may include letters from other faculty members (co-nominators), student comments, additional information to provide context for the nominees teaching accomplishments or similar relevant information.
3) Note: The Effective Instruction Committee will have access to all available historical teaching evaluation scores. These need not be included in the nomination package, but if provided must be within the noted page limits. A copy of the historical teaching evaluation data will be made available to the Department Chairs. Faculty should submit their requests to review the historical teaching evaluation data directly to their Chairs.
4) Nomination packages that include anything beyond what is specified will be considered non-responsive and will not be sent to the Effective Instruction Committee for consideration.
5) Nominations must be submitted to Ms. Shirley Mate by COB March 16, 2017. Late nominations will not be accepted.
