Dear Cullen College Faculty, Staff and Students,

It is my sincerest hope that this message finds you all safe and dry. We have experienced a natural disaster of epic proportions and I can only imagine the immense hardships many of you are facing.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey and its devastating aftermath, I would like to personally offer you the support of myself and our college’s administration as we assess the damage to our community and begin to do what we know how to do best – rebuild a better, safer and brighter tomorrow.

I didn’t think I could be any prouder to be a Houstonian, a Texan and a Cougar before this horrific ordeal. The love and unwavering support our community members have shown and continue to show one another is nothing short of stunning. I feel blessed beyond words to call this wonderful city my home and each of you my family. If I can offer my help to any member of our community I am more than happy to do so. Please feel free to reach out to me at dean at egr.uh.edu<mailto:dean at egr.uh.edu> with any questions or concerns you might have. We are here to support our Cougar Engineering family in any way we can.

I know that class schedules and making up missed work is the farthest thing from many of your minds during this time. I want to assure you that you are not required to make up the contact hours missed this week.

The University will not require additional classes (both face to face and online) to make up those missed during Harvey. Provost Short will ensure that faculty members are able to deliver as much of their full curriculum as they are able. To do that, she will make available support services to those faculty who want/need them to move material to alternative platforms (e.g., online).

A list of Hurricane Harvey resources has been made available by the UH Library at https://www.egr.uh.edu/news/201708/uh-library-provides-hurricane-harvey-resource-guide.

Please stay strong and know that we will get through this together. We will recover, we will rebuild and we will come together stronger than we have ever been before. We are Houston, after all!

Thank you all so much and please stay safe.

All my best,
Joseph W. Tedesco, Ph. D., P.E.
