Good afternoon,
By now, many of us may have already received the suspicious email below. Hopefully, these phishing emails are becoming quite obvious by now. However, if you thought there's a chance it could be legitimate, please review these types of email and ask yourself these questions:
1. Who is the sender? Do you know this person?
2. Who is this email being sent to? Is it you or does it seem like a generic/unknown email address(es).
3. Subject line and email body: hackers and spammers use the subject line and email body to appeal to your interest, curiosity, create panic, create urgency, etc.
4. Signature and contact information. Hackers can leave vague signatures or fake someone else's signatures
Whenever you review a suspicious email, you have to take into account ALL of the above points and not just one or two to determine legitimacy. In this case, none of the above seems to be UH related. If some of you are fooled by the subject line alone, then you haven't taken into account all of the parts of the email that are also important. Please try to remember that there is no urgency to respond to a suspicious email, so it's better to ask me for my input before acting.
Thank you to those who recognized and reported this phishing email.
