[CCoE Notice] FW: EMERGENCY ELECTRICAL OUTAGE TO REPAIR POWER POLE TO CAMPUS - Starting today at 2pm OPEN FOR MESSAGE

Good afternoon,

In light of this emergency announcement, please plan on shutting down computers, related electronics and lab equipment (that have no UPS support) about 10 minutes before 2PM today.  It may be safe to turn these back on about half an hour from the last power blip.

As for the power blips expected at the completion of the emergency outage occurring around 6AM tomorrow, we may also need to shutdown computers as we leave the office today.  As always, please contact your respective departments for help with shutting down computers if you are not in your office to shut them down yourselves.

Proper computer shut down procedures require that you either log onto the computer yourself and choose the shutdown option inside the operating system (Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, etc.), or by choosing the shutdown option at the login screen.  Please DO NOT shut down computers simply by pushing on the power button on the computer itself.  This action may cause the same hardware/software/data damage as a sudden power outage would.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding computer shutdown procesdures.
