[CCoE Notice] FW: UH MREB - Temp Electrical Site Walk

The “outage” will consist of 2 power blips, the first when the power is transferred to another feeder, and the second when power is transferred back. To be safe, I suggest that where backup power or UPS is not available, shut down until the outage is complete.
I have also been asked to have the schedule moved to 8:00 AM so someone will be available to shut down power and monitor conditions.
I need to respond by mid-day today in order to allow scheduling of the outage.

The contractor for the new MREB building needs to perform a short outage to tie in the transformer on the job site, They are suggesting 6 AM on Friday, 2/6/15. Is this something we can work with?
Please let me have your thoughts at your earliest convenience.

Ken,
See below. Tellepsen is tying in the new transformer for the site power for MREB. They wanted to do it next Friday 2/6 between 1-1:30pm. Knowing the buildings below will be affected, This is probably a bad time. What day/time would be best? Could they do it very early in the morning, like 6am on Friday 2/6?

Kelly, the outage will impact for than just 518 - Calhoun Lofts when scheduled. 518 - CL is tie to sub feeders 4 and 6. The contractor is going to tie in to the one of the two transformers at CL which would be the one tied to sub feeder 4. In shutting down sub feeder 4 this will cause brief power blips on the building bellow as 4 is their primary sub feeder and they will move to their alternate sub feeder.
1. 579- Engineering 1
2. 580 – Engineering Lecture Hall
3. 581 – Engineering 2
Also 523 – “AGL” Science Engineering Annex and 594 – “EERC” Engineering Resource Center will be down for the duration of the outage as well.
Thanks
Karl

Thanks for the notes, Karl.
I contacted the Building Coordinators for Calhoun Lofts regarding the blips when switching the transformers. I haven’t received a response yet to the proposed date and time. I’ll follow up with them again and let you all know.
Thanks,

Kelly,
Following up on the meeting we had with the contractor for MREB. We met on site with Vaughn and looked at a few things they had questions on.
1. Confirm where to get temporary power for the construction site from and how to tap the existing equipment. – UH confirmed that one of the 12.47kv – 480 volt utility transformers in the loading dock area of Calhoun Loft could be tapped. The secondary side of the transformer looks to have room to connect but special lugs will need to be used. The side wall of the transformers secondary side will have to be penetrated for conduit access. At the end of the job the contractor will need to properly seal the holes left in the side of the transformer.
Note: UH Electrical advises that when the construction temp service is built and ready for final tie in to Calhoun Loft transformers, the contract should be prepared to disconnect the 12.47kv feed to the existing overhead around the site that is listed on the demo plans. This will avoid the need for multiple outages.
1. Contractor requested that UH Electrical meet to access EERC shed and Engineering Test Well Crane to look at power. – UH Electrical Shop showed the existing equipment to Vaughn. The existing equipment will need to be temporary fed via the construction site temp service coming from Calhoun Lofts. Contractor needs to install a 60 amp, 3 phase, 480 volt circuit to the inside of the shed and UH electrical will re wire the circuit provided to the equipment inside the shed repowering the house panel and crane for the engineering test well.
1. Contractor requested that UH Electrical to mark all known underground duct banks and electrical circuitry. This was completed on Monday 1/26. Markings indicated Cougar 1 duct bank, sub feeders 4 & 6 duct banks at 2 locations, and existing site lighting. UH Electrical Supervisor advised the Vaughn Superintendent that they should take photographs of the markings for future reference later in the project.
1. Contractor requested that UH Electrical to identify any existing electrical equipment to be saved and recovered when disconnected for the site. – UH Electrical supervisor Confirmed with Vaughn Superintendent Pablo that UH want to salvage the pole top transformers that feed the AGL building and the electrical panels / transformer that served the food truck pads. All overhead lines, poles, transformers, and line equipment can be disposed of.
Thanks
Karl
