[CCoE Notice] Linux/UNIX Workshops - New Intermediate Level offered next week

Dear Engineering Faculty and Staff,

Welcome to the Fall 2014 semester!  In addition to the Introduction to Linux Workshop offer each semester, we have added an Intermediate Linux Workshop.

The Introduction to Linux Workshop will be offered on Wednesday, Sept 3, from 2:00-4:00pm and repeated on Thursday, Sept 4, from 10:00am-12:00pm.  Topics covered include:
-Linux/UNIX Systems Overview
-Interoperability with Windows
-Linux/UNIX Accounts - Email & Personal Web Page
-File Systems, Permissions
-System Commands and Applications

The Intermediate Linux Workshop will be offered on Friday, Sept 5, from 10:00am-12:00pm.  Topics covered include:
                -Input, Output & Pipes
                -Processes
                -Compiling UNIX Software Packages
                -Symbolic and Hard Links
                -Setting Environment Variables
                -File Transfers

The General UH Engineering Computing Essentials Orientation will be offered on Wednesday, Sept 3 from 11:00am-12:00pm, and Thursday, Sept 4, from 2:00-3:00pm.  Please see the attached newsletter (page 2) for list of topics covered.

All workshops and orientations are "hands-on" and scheduled in the Engineering Computing Center (ECC), Engineering Building 2, Room W129.  They are free to Engineering students, and no reservations are required.

Faculty, if you would like to arrange a software training workshop for your class, please let me know.
