[CCoE Notice] ECC_Unix account authentication

Good afternoon,

In an effort to unify authentication across Windows and Linux platforms, the ECC will be phasing out the separate ECC_Unix account authentication and use the Cougarnet account to authenticate onto Linux workstations/servers. This implementation adds more security and allows users to use one CougarNet password to log onto servers/workstations/Windows PCs instead of having separate ECC_Unix (NIS) password. Since we are using Cougarnet authentication on Linux computers, we are also bound by the same password reset and lockout rules that apply to Cougarnet accounts on Windows computers.

We have been working with many research groups to migrate their ECC_Unix accounts already, and will finish migrating the rest of the accounts by 10PM Sunday, August 10th. Please email me back if you have any difficulties logging onto Linux computers/servers using your Cougarnet credentials on or after Monday, August 11th. Again, this will only affect users who use ECC_Unix accounts to log onto Linux computers/servers.

Please email if you have any questions regarding this migration.

Thanks,
